Welcome to our website. We hope that you enjoy your trip back in time to a wonderful
era. It was a different world than today. It was "time to party" at the Osprey, Hunter Mountain and all of the local
bars and nightclubs in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and leading the way was the legendary
band Salvation.
Enjoy....Denis

"Wow. Talk about memories. I often speak of my mispent
youth on the Jersey Shore and Salvation is the soundtrack. Closing the bar in Old Bridge on Saturday night and driving down
to the beach, crashing in some godawful rental that had 22 people in 2 bedrooms. Laying out on the sand until the hangover
subsided, going into the Osprey for a sandwich and a few beers waiting for the band to come on. Dancing and singing at the
tops of our lungs and then going outside to see the sun still high in the sky knowing we had to go back home and get ready
for the week ahead, already wishing it was Friday. Thanks for reminding me of a really fun time in my life."

"I spent many of nights watching Salvation at the Colonel's Garter,Osprey, and many other places. I
remember spending many summers down Manasquan seeing Salvation on Saturday night at the Osprey going to the beach on Sunday
morning and then to the Osprey boat bar for the countdown. You guys were the best and will always live on forever in my memories."

"Denis - glad I found your homepage. You guys were my ultimate band beginning in 1969. I spent most of
my summer wages (I worked at Monmouth Park)buying Rolling Rocks at the Osprey and listening to you guys play. Really sad to
hear that Guy has passed away. He had a great voice. Almost 40 years later, I can still hear him belting out "A Little
Help From My Friends." Great memories. It was amazing that I got home alive every night. I can also remember urging the
band to play more CCR - Salvation's sound was very comparable. Take care."
Congratulations Chuck Wepner "The Real Rocky" on ESPN and also now on U-Tube
Besides the terrific life story of Chuck there was also a nice shot of Chuck and Boop
Salvation's roadie and a sequence when Chuck took the stage at Salvation's 1st Reunion. Chuck shook hands with Denis from
Salvation and embraced Bobby J in the video.

 The Story
The formation and transformation of Salvation is a long story. We want to recognize those
guys who were the members of Salvation in the early years as well as the Salvation "Dream Team". That was the 7
members of the band who made up Salvation for the final 5 years or so.
The story begins at the Osprey Hotel, summer
1968: Chuck and his band "the Miami Kids" played in the Osprey Main Bar. They were Ronnie and Robbie Sexton,
guitar and bass and Michael Gauthiere on the bass all from Miami, Florida and a drummer who quit at the end of the year. Arnett
and I had played as the opening act with the Allman Brothers Band with our band Max but we had a breakup and we were looking
for work. Agent, Jack Fisher asked Arnett to join Chuck's band and he said yes if they would hire me (Denis) as the second
lead singer. (Chuck and I (Denis) shared the role of front men/lead singers for more than 5 years).
(Salvation Version 1) We played the summer of
1969 at the Osprey as the "no name" band.
(Salvation Version 2) Ronnie and Robbie Sexton decided to return home to Miami
at summers end so we hired guitarist, Freddie Cole who was from New Jersey and a member of my high school rock band Tom Price
from Florida on the bass. (It was at this time that we recorded the hit song "Tomorrow is the first day of the rest of
my life" on United Artists Records. The song was from the Broadway show "Salvation". We decided to pick up
on the name and the rest is history.
We played 2 summers at the Osprey with that lineup plus a couple of additional
lead guitarists. We had 2 guitars, organ, bass, drums and 2 front men/lead singers. Phil DiCarlo from New Jersey was a very
very talented jazz style guitarist who played a summer with us at the Osprey. The other lead guitarist who played with us
was Mike LaFalce who was from Poughkeepsie, New York.
(Salvation Version 3) We made a major change next. Through the grapevine we got
word of an incredible guitarist and vocalist who had formed a band named Sioux. His name was Lenny Molinari. We caught
Lenny and his band at Dodds in Orange, New Jersey and we all loved his style. His band was good too. We approached Lenny with
an offer for him, his keyboard player Doc LaFalce and bass player Stevie Shirlee to become the new Salvation.
(Salvation Version
4) We added another talented entertainer shortly after that. His name was Bobby Jay. He replaced Stevie on bass
and also brought into the band his trumpet. It was after that I (Denis) became not only a lead singer/front man but a trombone
player as well. (I played the trombone in high school and in my first rock band.) Salvation now had a horn section.
We played our 5th summer at the Osprey with that band and also began playing at Art Stock's Playpen South in Ft. Lauderdale,
Florida for spring break. That became a yearly event for Salvation. We made our last 2 personnel changes after that. (Salvation Version 5) We were looking to free Bobby Jay up from playing bass so that we could do more songs with brass. Instead
of hiring a bass player we decided to hire Russ Hope. He was super talented. He played the organ and at the same time played
the bass on a synthesizer. He also played the bass and rhythm guitar. Russ had been the keyboard player with Arnett and I
(Denis) in our all original band "Max". Shortly after that we hired a 7th member. He and Russ had played together.
His name was Louie Pietz. Louie played the saxophone, flute and bass guitar. Louie was also a fantastic song writer and was
responsible for our pick hit single "Overnight Success" which we recorded on Elektra Records.

"Happened to spend some time at the Osprey (summer '69) was sitting at the bar, Salvation was
playing as Armstrong made his first step on the moon. What a historic time, wish I could have spent more time in Manasquan
that summer but I had this Marine Corps commitment. Just like to say thanks to a bunch of talented musicians...." Fran

Burlew It
was the end of the summer in 1970 and Salvation was playing a few gigs in New Jersey before heading north for the winter to
the Klondike Bar near Hunter Mountain Ski Area in upstate New York. An enterprising young man named Gary Burlew had befr iended Salvation drummer Arnett looking for a ride to Hunter Mountain hoping to land a bartending job at one of the local
bars. An equal at enterprising, Arnett convinced Gary to help out moving the band's equipment in turn for the ride north.
The rest is history. Gary never poured a drink at Hunter but he did move a whole lot of band equipment for Salvation
over the next 5 years or so. Gary has come full circle, having lived in Las Vegas and Hollywood, he is now settled back
in upstate New York. Gary has found us again via this website and promises to share with us some of his extremely interesting
stories from the early days of Salvation. Welcome back Gary!
